Krakow
is considered by many to be the "new Prague" but
less touristy. There are many things to see and do
in Krakow. It has the largest medieval square in
Europe, is one of only six cities in the world to
house an original Da Vinci painting, has a royal
castle, beautiful gothic buildings undamaged by the
Nazis, and was the home of John Paul II........and
that is only for the culture vultures !! Krakow is
also a vibrant university town and has hundreds of
bars and clubs. Beer, food and cigarettes are cheap
making Krakow the perfect getaway
for a weekend city break.
Mountains, lakes and sea, Poland is ideal for nature
lovers. Many areas are still unspoilt and virtually
untouched making it a haven for different types of
wildlife such as wolves, wild boer, storks etc. The
Tatry mountains and Zakopane offer stunning walks
and scenery not to mention excellent skiing
facilities in the winter. The Mazury lakelands are
an enormous expanse of marshes, canals and lakes in
north east Poland making it popular for hikers,
kayakers and boat enthusiasts.
The
Tri City area of Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia boasts a
reputation as one of Poland's cultural hot spots with
music, art and film festivals running throughout the
year. The gothic splendour of Gdansk is still largely
undiscovered by British tourists but is extremely
popular amongst Poles, Swedes and Germans. Sopot has
long been a cosmopolitan retreat for Poles over the
last century and continues to draw the crowds to
it's many music and art festivals. The Tri City area boasts
sandy beaches, stunning natural scenery and
countless bars, clubs and restaurants and the best
part is that the three cities are only about 25
minutes drive from each other !
As
with any capital city, Warsaw is the cosmopolitan
centre of the country. For the widest choice of
bars,
restaurants and clubs then Warsaw is the place
to go. There are also many things to see and do in
Warsaw with palaces, museums, parks and monuments
dotted all around the city. Hotels in Warsaw range
from the very affordable right through to the luxury
end of the market.
The
sheer numbers of cheap flights to Poland is probably
the main driving force for the country becoming
increasingly popular with Western tourists. A Warsaw
or Krakow city break is very affordable with hotels
and apartments offering great deals. Even 5 star
hotels in Warsaw can be within the reach of many
tourists who may want to end their trip with a touch
of luxury.
